Broken Bathrooms: Water damage in the home

Date

Of all the places in your home most likely to suffer water damage your bathroom is the top contender. You use your bathroom multiple times a day and gallons upon gallons of water flow through it every day. No part of your house contains more water at any one time then your bathtub. If your bathtub has sprung a leak that could lead to devastating water damage in the future and costly repairs.

Most bathtubs today are made out of fiberglass, plastic and other light and easily maneuverable materials. These materials are very easy for the builders to deal with but are quite flimsy when used every day. It is in no way difficult to crack bottom of a bath tub and even a very small crack can lead to a lot of leaking. Repairs can be made to bathtubs using such materials as Bondo but these are patch jobs. If you have any major water damage issues with your bathtub you should seek professional help.

One of the most easy ways for a bath tub to cause water damages for it to overflow. If you live in a house with people who have long hair it is very likely that their hair will eventually clog the drain leading from your bath tub. Clearing out the drain is an extremely nasty job that no one wants to do and if left alone for too long your bathtub will overflow if filled up. Many believe that Bath's running as they walk into another room to do something else and if you haven't cleaned out the drain it is known all surprising to come bath water and find the path flowing into the rest of the bathroom.

The fact is that most of us are at least a little oblivious to broken things in our home. Often they can be left broken for months and with something that wouldn't matter but we anything that carries water the potential for water damage can be disastrous. When it comes to the showerhead we may ignore the fact that water is spilling all over the place but the damage that is potentially going on behind the wall could be severe.

Over time the water accumulating on the drywall, tile and would cannot only be hazardous to your health is but can also cause you great distress. Any leak in your home will eventually lead to the accumulation of mold and mildew and if the damage is severe and often spread mold spores in the air. Most people believe that our bathrooms are built using water resistant materials but often that is just not the case. This often bathrooms are built with just standard drywall and therefore are highly susceptible to water and mold damage. Eventually if untreated water can eat through the grout and the sealant under your tile causing it cracked and break away.

These are cause extreme examples of what a broken showerhead can cause this but it is an example of how a small thing can lead to very big repairs. Don't leave the repair work for another day. The time and money that will be saved by repairing it now will far outweigh the cost and stress involved in a major repair later on.
